Youth Advocates for Immigrants and Refugees is a group of highly motivated high school and college students who have united to build bridges of cross-cultural understanding through art, activism and storytelling.
A workshop format begun by Narrative4: "Storytellers share their stories with a partner and actively listen while their partner shares their story. The group gathers together and each participant retells their partner’s story in the first person. Participants discuss how they feel and what they learned from the Story Exchange."
The Speak Up/Speak Out podcast series provides a platform for immigrant, refugee, and multicultural youth in Portland, Oregon, to share their stories--our goal being to foster cross-cultural connections and empathetic exchange.
These are meant to dispel harmful stereotypes and assumptions.
Cultural appreciation events that incorporate story exchange sessions, poetry, cultural performances, and local food for purchase.
